CITY PARKS & FACILITIES
- Lone Tree Park, the city's main park - also
known as South Park, is located adjacent to Highway 14, one half mile south
of downtown. Its many amenities include sheltered picnic areas; public restrooms;
a large, modern playground; baseball and softball diamonds; two tennis courts;
sand volleyball court; and the city's outdoor swimming pool.
- North Park, located on F Avenue and B Street,
has a sheltered picnic area, public restrooms, playground equipment and a
lighted horseshoe court with a baseball diamond located across the street.
- Kernel Baseball Field, a beautiful baseball
facility used by the American Legion baseball teams, is located at l0th Street
and 21st Avenue with a parking lot, children's playground and refreshment
stand available.
RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES
- Merrick County Health & Fitness Center
is located at 2502 23rd Avenue. Annual individual or family memberships are
available, or a daily fee may be paid. Facilities include an indoor swimming
pool (handicap accessible); hot tub; indoor walking track; full-size gymnasium
for basketball and volleyball; 2 racquetball courts; weight machines; a variety
of aerobic workout machines; as well as a multi-use room. Open Monday thru
Friday from 6 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday

- City Recreation Programs: The Merrick County
Fitness Center and several volunteer groups operate a wide variety of
recreational and sports programs for all ages. Contact the Fitness Center
at (308) 946-2974 for up-to-date information on scheduled programs.
- Golf Courses:
- Riverside Golf Course is a 9-hole, sand green golf course located
at Riverside Park, 3 miles southeast of Central City .
- Valley View CC is a 9-hole golf course, 4 1/2 miles south of
Central City on Highway 14. Phone (308) 946-2730 for more information.
- Lone Tree Lanes is located
at 26th Street and 23rd Avenue. Call (308) 946-2118 for hours of operation.
- Sportsman's Club: Rifle, pistol, trap and
archery ranges, located 2 miles south of Central City on Highway 14.
- State Movie Theater, a two screen movie house
showing the latest releases, is located downtown on Highway 30 and C Ave.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
- Bader Memorial Park Natural Area offers easy
access to a unique combination of Platte River habitats, virgin tallgrass
prairie, riparian cottonwood forest, ponds and wetlands. The park is located
10 miles west of Central City and 3 miles south, or 1 mile east of Chapman,
Nebraska, just north of the Platte River Bridge.
- Lone Tree Monument, a stone monument, stands at
the site of the famous Lone Tree, 3 miles south of the city on 15 Road.
- Historical Mural - A mural depicting the city's
past and its close ties to the railroad is painted on a two-story wall adjacent
to the intersection of Highways 30 and 14.
- Merrick County Historical Museum is located in
the gorgeous Traver mansion, at 211 E Street . The building preserves colorful
accounts of city and county history. The museum is open May through September
on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. or by appointment.

The Great Platte River Road
Archway Monument, located in Kearney, Nebraska, celebrates the growth
of a nation and the trails traveled by those settling the West.
Stuhr Museum of the
Prairie Pioneer: With its 40-acre railroad town and the home of Henry
Fonda, this museum, near Grand Island, Nebraska, holds the honor of being one
of the nation's top 10 living history museums.
Crane Meadows Nature
Center: A place to view nature and see the great annual migration of
millions of fowl, including the Sand Hill Crane.
