ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CLIMATE
The City of Central City aggressively works to improve the quality and
diversity of industry and businesses in the community. The city has been successful
in its economic development endeavors because of a forward looking Mayor and City
Council and an active Economic Development Corporation. Central City has a local
option sales tax which allocates city sales tax receipts directly into Economic
Development efforts. Additionally, citizens have formed a local investment club
whose purpose is to provide a funding mechanism to new businesses in the community.
On top of this local support, the City is blessed with a sizeable work force
which is both hard working and highly educated. Within a 30-minute drive of
Central City, there is an available labor pool of more than 80,000 people.
Central City has many other attributes making it attractive to industry including
a great location with easy acces to a variety of transporation services. Central
City is intersected by two major highways, has two railroads, is within 17 miles
of Interstate 80, and is within 20 minutes of a large regional airport.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INCENTIVES
City
- Sales Tax Funds: The city's economic development
sales tax funds can be made available to businesses in the form of direct
financial assistance, such as low interest loans; purchase/lease back of buildings;
or assistance with moving or new equipment costs. The ability of the city
to be able to provide direct financial assistance makes Central City a unique
opportunity for a business or industry looking to establish itself in a new
location.
- Utilities: The city owns and operates all utilities,
which means businesses have only one place to stop for coordinating all of
the business utility needs.
- Tax Increment Financing (TIF):
the City has the ability to use TIF to assist a new or expanding business.
State of Nebraska
- LB 775 provides credits which can substantially
reduce or even eliminate a company's tax liability. With major investments
in employees and property, a company can pay little or no corporate income
taxes, sales and use taxes, or personal property taxes on certain property
for up to 15 years.
- Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) funds
can be used for a wide variety of purposes in support of a new business to
the state, when that business creates new jobs. These funds include grants,
loans or job training assistance.
