LOCAL ECONOMY
Central City's local economy is a diverse mix of industrial, agricultural and retail businesses. The area surrounding the community is prime agricultural land on which the predominant crop is corn. Several key businesses in the community provide direct agricultural support by providing grain drying and storage, seed and chemicals. Agreements are in the works for several additional new businesses to locate in the community.

There are numerous key non-agricultural businesses in the community as well. Horizon Wood Door and Moulding Company recently moved to Central City from the front range of Colorado to reap the benefits of a dedicated and available work force, as well as less costly utilities. Numerous thriving retail businesses help make Central City a retail center for the surrounding area. A general variety store, large supermarket, two hardware stores, as well as specialty shops provide for the retail needs of the community and surrounding area. Professional services -- including three banks, a modern medical clinic, and a variety of professional health providers, round out a well-balanced economic climate.
